Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I Use a Periotron Without Computer Software? |
Yes,
one is able to use a Periotron without its companion computer software,
Periotron Professional. If you will simply be taking sample readings
without regard to volume or thickness conversions, then the Periotron
becomes an excellent stand-alone diagnostic tool. However, should you wish
to convert Periotron Scores into volume (ml)
and/or into thickness (mm), this process would
need to be done by hand.

This
would entail creating a standard curve for each paper type used. Using the
standard curve a series of coefficients for a 4th order polynomial would
need to be determined. The polynomial would be expressed as: |
y=a0 + a1x1
+ a2x2 + a3x3
where y=Periotron Score, x=Volume
Conversion and a=coefficient
Needless to say, the process for manual Periotron Score conversions (solving
for x) is a laborious, tedious and time consuming task. It is Oraflow's
suggestion to use Periotron Professional since standard curve plotting,
coefficient determination and conversions are done automatically and
quickly. |
