What is the strip capacity of
the various papers?
PerioPaper absorbs about 0.6 to 0.7 ml of fluid. However, one can still
measure the volume of GCF samples beyond this volume but less accurately,
because a strip can carry extra GCF on its surface. This extra fluid gets
spread to a constant thickness when the jaws are closed. This is because the
distance between the electrodes when the jaws are closed is precisely set.
When the Periotron scores are between 120 and 199, one is still reading GCF
volume. As a consequence, one can read up to about 1.0 to 1.2
ml with a
PerioPaper strip. When using the software program, Periotron Professional
3.0 (see below), for the conversion from Periotron readings to
ml to capture
these higher values, set up your Periotron standard curve with PerioCol
paper and continue to use your PerioPaper strips as you apparently have been
doing. If conversions are done manually using graph paper, this is not
necessary.
